Hi there, got my m52b28...It's from an auto.

I'm a bit confused now, there seems to be a lot of auto related gear.

2x ECU type connector
2x X20 style connector
1 water feed/return for gearbox I assume?

Just wanted to ask, what's the best way to remove all of the automatic gearbox related wiring from my wiring loom? Where shall I start? :o:

Thanks in advance.

Would it not be easier to blank it off as opposed to risking damaging a wire or two you may need by stripping it out ?

It's not as though you'll run out of room in the car to store the loom safely, and it won't weigh much more with the auto bits on it.

I think it may get in the way, as I intend to house the ECU in the standard E30 location.

I don't think there is space for two loom connectors to squeeze through the bulkhead on the e30.

I do remember reading somewhere that the whole automatic related spaghetti can be removed quite simply to leave what would be the same as a manual loom.
I just want everything to be neat and tidy really as those ECU and X20 type connectors are big old things.

Dantheman is a zone expert on M52 looms, he'll sort you out. PM him or he pop up here.

As above post the loom to dan and get it back with all the auto stuff removed, or fit it and get the engine running before atempting to cut out the auto wiring!

Started at the x20 type plug for the auto, and traced and removed all of the wiring from it. There was a black and yellow wire, and 4 white/grey, white/green wires going from the auto ecu connector directly to the manual ECU connector. I've just cut these off.

I looked at some wiring diagrams and I think that these are wires from the "slip control unit". Strange as the m52 doesn't have traction control.

Also, what do I do with the unconnected wires left from the x20? Do i trace them back and remove them?

Thanks.

Oh alright. So the couple of wires going from the auto ecu plug to the manual ecu plug being chopped isn't a problem then?

Cheers

The rest of the loom is sorted. Removed all auto stuff and wired it into the C101 plug. Fitted into a 4 pot wiring loom as well so is all neat.

Please can someone tell me what this wire is. Is it something related to the automatic loom?

Goes from the +ve feed (assuming battert in boot) and one goes to the starter, one goes to the alternator

Ok thanks.

All of the terminals on both the starter and alternator are currently already taken up.

Therefore i assume that the alternator and starter will have a terminal with TWO pins on it?

Cheers.

Well that wire is really confusing me
I've made my loom and everything and all of the pins on both starter and the alternator are already occupied with wires.

Does this wire literally just slot over the alternator, starter motor and then battery +ve terminal? Meaning one pin on both the alternator and the starter will have two terminals on it? Can someone confirm this please?

Thanks

just to confirm this.

That means my loom will have 1x brown ground wire which connects to -ve terminal on battery. It also means that there will be 1x red wire which feeds into the relays I think for ECU power, which connects to +ve terminal. Now with the addition of the red wire from starter to battery, I will have another red wire connecting to the +ve terminal on the battery.

This means that there will be two red wires connecting up to the +ve on the battery, and one brown wire going to the -ve on the battery.

Is this correct?

Thanks

Thanks for that mate. Think I've got it sorted now.

There is already the standard e36 loom wire going from alternator to starter. There's just nothing that goes from the starter to the battery positive.
Had a look at some other e30s and realised that there are intact two cables joint on to the positive on the starter.

So two positives going from battery terminal, one for the relays and one for the starter.

Alternator is connected to starter as is in the e36 loom.

However, ATM, nothing going from the starter to battery. So I ell have to add this wire in right?

Thanks

Yes, will, have to add it on...thanks for the help.

Well, loom is finally sorted and looks quite neat. :D

Confused about this EWS now.
Looked at the diagram, what does "Hot in ACC" mean?

So do these two lives to the ews controller and send/receive module come direct from the battery?

Am I right in thinking that the only thing going from ews controller to ECU is the green wire at pin 18 on ecu?

Thanks

Ok, thanks for that will.

What's the best way to fit an inline fuse, and what's a good place to run the ground cable to.

Also, this will sound very silly, but do you have any pictures of the ignition switch, is easy to get to the wiring to it?

Thanks

Ok cheers for that will. I'll see what is going on when I'm under the dash as it may make more sense then.

I too managed to get the green wire directly from ecu, however I just need to confirm that this is the green wire from pin 18 on the ecu plug.

Thanks a lot for the help so far. Wouldn't have been able to do this otherwise.

Come to making the electric fan wiring loom.

Please could someone provide a diagram for this, and the best place to get the power from, route wires from etc.

I've got an 80/88 C temperature switch from an e36, so I assume I will need a twin speed loom, with a resistor in one of the circuits for the low power?

Thanks in advance.
