Whomever said changing a diff in a day was possible, THEY LIE! :roll:

Anycase, last week i went and collected a 3.64:1 LSD through here for a nice price, even cleaned and painted.Image

By lunchtime today we had this:

I didn't get any pictures of the new diff bolted up into the subframe, but it's there. Tomorrow is bolting the prop / driveshafts back on, heatsheilds and the exhaust.

Update Time

New Diff went on, wasn't that was causing the whining, was infact the completely fubared rear wheel bearings :eek: They've now since been done.

Then came April, and the dreaded cracked head issue finally befell my car :(

Massive thanks to maggspower for assembling a replacement head (AMC one) and getting it to me in pristine condition all the way from Wales! 8)

Since then the car's ran without fault, though the steering was always feeling decidedly slack.. now with a clunk.

New Joints all sorted, thanks to DanThe, though will say building a E30 / E34 hybrid joint isn't something I'd want to try again :mad: Spent 2 hours just fiddling on those while the rest of it came apart and went back together in that time.

Tomorrow just need to get down to BMW and get 2 more bolts and some power steering fluid to finish bolting back together, then a tracking session to make sure it's all in the right direction... then road test time :D

Just a quick update, no pictures though however the car has been tracked up and what a difference.
The steering is by far much improved and much more responsive to input compared to before :D though the clutch is now feeling decidedly ropey.

Nice little thread, enjoyed the read and progress. Looking forward to seeing more. Hoping to pick up a 325i touring soon.... an upgrade from my current IS.

Had a bit of a polish, really needs a proper respray though and maybe a few replacement panels.
