we had time to kill yesterday while north of watford so decided to pop into halfords and pick up an oil filter for an m20 , and was told we do not have that in stock sir, so went to another branch a few miles away to be told they no longer keep them in stock but can order you one, WTF

I'm amazed they stocked it until recently. The M20 has been out of production now for 20 years bar a few convertibles and tourings. How many do you think they'll sell? Very, very few.

Halfords would be the last place Id go for service parts.

Yeah i've not used them for serviceable items for a while now. Was stuck one day and had to use them to get an air filter for an m52, none in stock

They still sell a Champion Filter for the M20, which is usually always on the shelf....although I can't remember the part number

Halfords is a saves alot of people on Sundays when no one else is open and you need some asap chemical metal etc!

Got some plugs from there the other day for the m20 NGK £17.99 and thought I would have a look at what else they had, £40.99p for a dizzy cap, didn't have leads in stock or price without asking, as You say will sometimes get you out of trouble when no where else is open..

Actually you have a point here, i have used the halfords filter before a few times and have picked one apart, the rumor of the poor drain back valve is unfounded and i have never had an issue with one, the last one i used kept the oil cleaner than other versions of similar price.
The one i just got from ecp on the other hand has a piss poor drain back valve and will be getting replaced ASAP.

I think the halfords ones were made by fram?

I'd only use a Mann filter - wouldn't touch Hengst, Coopers etc. Fram were okay but a Mann filter isn't dear. I've used Halfords pads and they're about 20 quid a set for the front.

Halfords pads are all mintex and its not like mintex are a bad brakes supplier.

I am thinking mann is the next plan.

I've used their Champion C160 regularly on my track car and never had a problem. They always had one in stock. However, last time, they hadn't and it wasn't in the info cards on the shelf either. I was told it has been discontinued

However, they did say they could get me a Mann filter then next day, and that they did. It was in the shop by 9:30. I know where they get their stock from too - Andrew Page. I could have gone there myself, but for the additional cost of petrol, plus the hassle of driving there and back, around £7 all-in wasn't bad at all.
