Had my radio turned up a touch loud the otherday and it cut out, I have taken the unit out and check the fuse tried to reset it etc, I have tried the radio in a different car, and it worked fine so what have I blown? I have checked the fuses under the bonnet

Think you'll need to be methodical...
1. test the +ves...should be 2..one constant live, one ignition switched...Check they are showing 12V
2. check earth continuity
If both these are OK, and the unit works OK on another car or direct to a battery, then it will work (turn on) if attached to the correct leads
3. Assuming the above is true, then if there is no sound, check the output to other speaker(s)..
If it works, then the problem is the speaker(s) in the car or the wiring to them...Try removing one of the non-working ones and wiring it to the head unit with a new bit of cable...If it works, it is the cable. If it doesn't it's the speakers and you've blown them and will need some new ones.
If the unit doesn't produce sound to any speakers (even in another car or a free-standing speaker) then it is likely to be the output amps in the unit...

I've sorted it cheers for your help bradz you were right I used half your method julz and found a 5amp fuse tucked up behind the steering column it had blown
