I dont know mate,
I'll have a look on their forum,
But I dont want to be messing with the settings on the vems,
It's definitely not my area,
Im just a driver :), so I'll stay well clear,

That's why I asked gunni to load the base map for me before he sent it back,
Because I wouldn't have a clue where to start :?

Hmmmm just been outside to put the lights and grills back onto the car,

and while i was putting the connectors into the back of the lights,
i brushed past the metal part of the MAF with my arm,

and the fooker is hot!!
iv got a feeling it shouldnt be like that,
the car hasnt been touched since yesterday,
and the ignition is not on as the key is in the sittingroom........

why is the MAF hot anyone??

it was tested on another M50 before i got it and it worked perfectly

I dont think so,
there are no provisions/connectors for a MAP sensor to be plugged in,
only the MAF

I'm 99% sure vems runs off a map sensor.

Hmm,
i thought with there being no connection for a MAP
and only the connector for the MAF, thats how it connected up,

so does this mean i have to change the wiring/connector that goes to the MAF
for a MAP connector..?
and then also buy a MAP

Did you get it through the group buy? Check the thread, it says that the ecu comes with map sensor

Yeah I think it's built into the ecu between the two plugs there is a vacuum connection. Which if I'm right it's for the MAP

Cheers sag,
I thought the vacuum pipe on the ECU was for boost control..?

I'm confused now. It's best to ask Gunni.

I assumed the vacuum port on the ECU was for MAP as I bought a boost control solenoid from Gunni for extra money.

vacum port on aftermarket ECU is normaly for map sensor.
Boost controller is normaly seperate box from ecu

This is from a PM I received from Gunni a while ago when I enquired about VEMS:

"Maf gets removed.

The PnP runs a Speed Density setup (map sensor based)"

So not sure why you have a MAF.

Disconnect the MAF and take it off wherever it's connected, vems runs off map. Then connect a vacuum/boost feed to the vems unit.

The MAF is off now.

If I take a feed from the turbo to intercooler pipe, direct to the ECU vacuum nipple,
would that do it?

Think it's best to take a feed off the intake manifold. For now just take a boost reading from anywhere and see if it fires.

Ok will do,
i'm thinking of putting a "T" piece in the hose running between the inlet and the pressure regulator, then onto the ECU?

These MAP sensors....
i'v just hunted about for the box that the vems came in,
I found it :) and in the bottom of the box was this sensor..

Image

Is this supposed to go in place of the standard air temp sensor then?

Yep that's a temp sensor. Best to ask gunni if this replaces the factory BMW air temp sensor

That air temp sensor needs to be fitted to the intercooler pipes.
With great challenges comes great engineering.

I can sort that tomorrow, i'll just drill and tap the inlet intercooler pipe :)

And does that just run off the standard air temp sensor connector?

i.e unplug the air temp sensor and plug it straight into this sensor?

Yes , just plug this into the original air temp sensor plug.

Yes :)

First of all, I have to say a big thank you to everyone that has helped me along this project,
from deciding which engine to use up to the end of the conversion

And a BIG thank you to Gunni, without him,
I wouldnt of had a turbo, a VEMS ECU :P or been at this stage right now

Its still not quite complete yet, the idle sits a bit high and its overfueling at the moment, nothing a bit of tweeking with the ECU wont fix
and theres just a few little jobs that need doing, before I take it on a test drive, then on for an MOT,
but I have to say I am a HAPPY MAN :D :D :D

Its been emotional :thumb:

Well done mate!!

I'm hoping to finish my conversion soon, but there has been a few delays already. But hopefully in next couple of months.
