good evening!
just walked up to my 316 touring (shes called effie) and noticed the ground roughly under the drivers seat was wet (made quite obvious considering englands finally got its 4 days of summer)
slightly worried i got in, started the engine, wound down all the windows (woo summer!) and found the clutch pedal to be looser than american rules of engagement. it offered no resistance, and didnt do a thing.
help? i imagine some sort of hydraulic pipe has given up on life, but im not sure...
any ideas? easy/cheap to fix?
cheers!

If it's damp under the car, it's either the hose from the brake fluid reservoir to the clutch slave cylinder, or the slave itself.
If it's the slave, you need to change it and the master as a pair.

It's not hard to do, it just requires patience for the fiddly bits and some proper spanners to prevent you rounding off the bolt heads.
AFAIK, clutch cylinders are the same for all E30s.

Buy the more expensive version from here: http://www.carparts4less.co.uk/
The clutch master cylinder has a supply pipe from the brake fluid reservoir to the clutch master on Grrrmachine's E30, but in the UK, where the pedal (and clutch cylinder) are on the other side of the car, the clutch fluid reservoir is a separate container just in front of the battery, and in your case, is almost certainly empty.
When you have replaced the slave cylinder, you will need to refill this container with brake/clutch fluid, and bleed the system to remove air from everything, keeping the reservoir topped up as you do so.

I bought a 1987 320iSE and within a week or two, the clutch master cylinder was failing. I bought a replacement from a motor factors and fitted it - as said above, it's straightforward enough, just fiddly as it involves alot of uncomfortable crouching around the pedal box!

Are the bores not different for the master/slave depending on M40 or M20?
I know I was quoted different part numbers at a pirate store depending on the model E30.

Same bore for all UK models, at least. 20.64mm
