The clutch sometimes looses pressure and drops without resistance and the car is jerky on set off.

Is this the master or slave that is faulty or is it just low fluid.

thanks

Have you checked the fluid?

If you do change master or slave cylinder, its best to do both at the same time, or chances are you will be replacing whichever one you don't change within a month.

More than likely the slave, same thing happened to me about 3 months ago. Definately check the fluid first though. I did not change the master when I changed the slave and have had no problems since, a chance you take I suppose. :D

If you look at the brake fluid reservoir, you'll see a tube coming out of the side of it. If the fluid is low enough to expose all or part of that tube's intake, then you'll experience a floppy clutch.

If the fluid is alright, check for fluid leaks. Damp patches under the car are a weepy slave, damp carpet is a weepy master. As others have said, you need to change them as a pair.
