M52 oil change time which oil?

sorry i know this has been asked many many times before but what would you say i should use 5w-30 or 10w-40 full or semi? engines done about 150K and never drinks oil, thank the lord!

All mine get 5W-40 full synthetic.

I tried 5w-30 on my first M52 and it made it a little rattly, 5w-40 in now and its fine (full synth)

Personally, I normally use Shell Helix Ultra, because I can buy it for about £3.50/litre in France.

i've used 5w30 in mine and its definetely made it a bit rattley, it had 5w40 in there before this and it was very smooth and the engine was silent.

i'm going back to 5w40 :D :D

BMW's original recommendations for oil for a M50 only specify a 10W-30 to a maximum air temperature of around +5 degrees Celsius. 5W-30 is only suitable for a maximum air temperature of -5 degrees!

Did an oil change earlier using the oil suggested by Dan and she's great. Doesn't rattle at all... Guess mines a healthy engine as a pose to a baby's rattle :wink:
A 2 door e30 with 8 cylinders, what could be better winkeye :D

i had to have a read up about 5w40 ,50,60 and so on.... is the temps they work at.

i was just a oil is oil person lol
