Wonder if anyone could offer me any addvise on choice of exaust for my mtec 1 sport that will give me best performance and sound.
I have just got a quote for a custom made exaust downpipe back, no center silencer, just back box with 2 dtms, stainless steel with lifetime garantee for Ԛ£350 inc VAT fitted.
what do you think guys, is this good value and do you think it will be too loud! i want it roar a bit anyway but dont want old bill on me case!
what do ya rekon guys?

Custom made stuff isnt usually any good. They usually make the right noises and the wrong rpms ranges, they dont do jack for power and seldom last very long (internally).

Go for something thats tried and tested like Supersprint/Mongoose/Scorpion.

One of the best noises is made by the ECP Boysen system.

You waotn gain anything from an exhaust system anyway, if anything 1-3 bhp at the most at the cost of low end torque.

Sound's just down to your opinion I'm afraid... Scorpions particularly are a bit marmite (love / hate)... Tailpipe style's personal preference too - I don't like DTMs, but that's irrelevant to you!

My vote goes to supersprint now I've got mine!

The Supersprint is designed to be used with the origional Centre Section.

The scorpion is a good exhaust but is well known to lose you bottom end torque unless you go and get a remap done.

The Mongoose is good but quite loud and it doesnt fit as well as a scorpion does in all honesty.

I dont sell Scorpion but I would seriosuly say you find someone on here who has one as you may hate it or like it.

My personal vote goes to the Boysen system - nice deep grumbly bass with a howling top end.

i dunno which back box to suggest, but a midbox like this helps alot. the difference after i cahnged it with the previous system was unreal.

alot to do with restriction i guess. and the car "flows" alot better now generaly.

I did have a (knackered) standard 3-piece system & now have a standard 2-piece front section & the supersprint rear section. Mine's the one with the 2 angled exits (not DTM).

The difference is amazing! It's really quiet at idle & you can hardly hear it when cruising at motorway speeds (bear in mind there's more wind noise in my cab!), but it makes a proper nice sound when you want it to

I've always been a fan of loud exhausts, but now I'm really loving something a little more subtle... If you want something in-yer-face, the scorpion's a better bet though!

I'm alos looking at an exhaust (not that the standard one isn't fruity). I'd like something less restrictive and ore robust generally.

I have had a Powerflow in the past (on a Primera GT).

It was good, if a touch loud (a 4.5 inch can may have had something to do with that). It was a nice low tone though, not at all metallic and raspy. If I can get something that's nice-sounding but less resonant than the PF I'd be happy but then again, I'd rather not spend the earth or have loads of hassle.

Looking at some of the sytams here it seems that Scorpion may be a little bit too much on the volume and the others a little too much on the Ԛ£Ã”šÃ‚£Ãƒ”šÃ‚£.

Hmm.

I'm currently working on a system which im going to offer.

Its quite an interesting one.

All Stainless steel single box system.

The aim is to get it quite quiet whilst driving at constant speeds and low rpms yet when the loud pedal is hit it will make a noise which no one can imagine.

I have fitted a similar system to an Alpina 2.7 and let just say everyone that hears it wants to buy it and give in their scorpions etc in as pX!

Watch this space.
