Hi.
I have a c reg 320i manual which has all the early style front valance and engine management, I'm fitting an early 325i m20 high compresion engine removed from a c reg auto. Could I use the flywheel and clutch from the 320?
I have a 2.5 gearbox and prop as I guess they would be different.
Also could anyone shed any light on wiring as the main engine loom to body loom is different the 320 has e21 style plug that connects up next to fuse box and the donor engine has a normal plug that connects up on bulkhead.
Thank you
E30 m20 flywheel are they same regardless of year?

Multiple questions, so I'll just have to post multiple links otherwise the answer will be enormous. So
#1 Flywheels should be compatible:

#2 Gearbox and Prop will also require a different Differential:

#3 Engine loom to body loom plug is known as the C101:

A C plate 325i will have the early Motronic 1.1 style system with two flywheel senors in the gearbox bellhousing. These are for TDC reference and crank speed. You will need an early 325i flywheel with the TDC lug. Without the lug, it will not run. Also, you will need the 325i box with the two open holes for the sensors to fit into.
The 325i heralded the round C101 connector plug in August '85. Your 320i will have the older type plug. Not insurmountable if you find someone with the wire to wire conversion chart. Brianmooooore probably has it.
The 320i prop is the wrong length but a 325i one will fit. All you need to do is slacken the collar nut near the centre bearing and adjust the prop length to fit the 320i diff. A 1985 320i should be running a 3.45 diff, a good ratio.

Grrrmachine thanks for the links very helpful indeed
Andyboy I have the early box with both sensors also sorted for prop just flywheel left as was thinking of using the original 320 one sounds like that's out the window then and now on the hunt for a pre face-lift flywheel now.
Are the m20 flywheels easy to distinguish?

Far better idea to fit any M20 flywheel and change the whole loom, ECU and associated sensors to Motronic 1.3.

Could I use the existing 325 loom or will that need swapping for later one?
Apart from the loom am I right in thinkikng I will need ecu/pulley/crank sensor + bracket/ ignition leads.
