I've seen a lightened and balanced flywheel for the M20 engine and I'm considering getting one and fitting it. Do I need to change anything else or is it as simple as a straight swap?

Also what are the pros and cons of a lightened and balanced flywheel?

no cons in the grand scheme, and it's just a straight swap - make sure you get one which is proven. It's ok having a lightened fly, but it's all to do with where the meat is taken off. The further away from the center the weight is, the less energy it requires to spin it up & vice versa

No con's get's my vote! Straight swap even better, I'd heard folks going on about having to balance the crank as well.

Anything else I should know before undertaking this type of mod?
