if they are talking about possibly breaking the easiest to remove windscreen i've come across then maybe you shouldn't let them work on your car !

The E30 is one of the easiest screens to remove.

Sounds like he is just covering his arse.....

a new screen can be sourced for around £150, second hand for around £20 - 50

You can get a second hand screen for 10/20 quid, its easy to take out, but try refitting the rubber seal. the zone wiki says its easy, if its easy then my pricks a fookin bloater.

Fitting the seal is quick and easy IF you have the correct tool.
It's still easy without the tool, but takes a long time, and risks damage to paintwork and fingers.

when i had my cabby repainted i had the screen removed and a new one put in by auto glass for £100...they even fitted the new silver windscreen trim i purchased....for that sort of a price it was a no brainer.

Toughened side windows are suprisingly flexable, laminated screens are tough, until they get a chip, at which point you have a weak point a crack can spread from.

The way e30 front screens are fitted with a lock strip means there's not much stress on the screen when removing or refitting, so unless it's really bad it should come out without cracking.

Tbh I think it was quite good of him to advise it might crack and to have one on standby just incase.
cheers,

harry
