well with all this heavy rain lately i am seeing a fair few rainbow coloured patches on my driveway, now my question is, is this oil or fuel? when dipping my fingers in it i cant smell fuel so im hoping its oil but sometimes when i pull up i can smell fuel but could this just be down to over-fueling? if it was petrol would i be able to tell pretty easily from the smell? thanks

If the patches persist, it's oil. Fuel would evaporate in a few minutes.
Could be engine oil, gearbox oil, or steering fluid.
If your engine is a M20 ( six cylinder), then the chances are it's engine oil.

Commonest place for a M40 to leak fuel is from a couple of three inch long rubber fuel hoses hidden under the back end of the inlet manifold.
