I've been slowly building up parts ready for an itb conversion on my 325i. At some point I'm going to need an ecu. Any recommendations? Does anyone here run megasquirt? How about Emerald, or Omex? I've had a bit of a search but haven't found much.

Have a look at VEMS. If you are interested then pm me.

Looks interesting. Anyone else have any suggestions? The more info the better as I'm not ready to buy an ecu just yet so I've got time to decide. I have bought 2 sets of GSXR600 throttle bodies. I have another 325i manifold coming in the post so I will be getting that chopped/modified to suit. Ecu wise I'm not necessarily looking for pnp but it might be handy. Is there a cam sensor on the 325i? I'd like sequential injection and will be ditching the standard "distributor" so will be using wasted spark, maybe cop. Any help would be very much appreciated as I am a bit of a technophobe but keen to learn.

Do you need timed injection or just individually sequential injection?

Check out FlappySocks' Megasquirt website:

No cam sensor on the 325i, just a crank position sensor (CPS). Adding a cam sensor would probably be easy enough though.

No cam sensor? So motronic doesn't do sequential injection? If I go to wasted spark ignition could I mount a cam sensor instead of the rotor arm on the end of the camshaft? I am tempted by megasquirt but I would need it built for me so it probably wouldn't be much cheaper than one "off the shelf". Cost isn't the main criteria, but it's definitely a consideration. Something that a good rolling road tuner can get on with and ease of use for me, don't forget I'm a technophobe, are the most important things. Being able you use the standard dashboard gauges would be nice. Would also like to keep the led warning panel. Will I need to make a custom wiring loom?
Gunni, is timed injection the same as batch? I would like "sequential" - each cylinder gets it's own timed injection event. At least I think I do. I've heard that it gives better fuel economy and emissions with good power. Probably. All I know for sure is that it requires a cam sensor. The car will mainly be used for track days and a bit of drifting. It won't be spending much time on the highway.

Motronic does do semi sequential injection under certain conditions. It uses a crude version of a cam position sensor, in the form of an inductive sensor on plug lead #6, which tells the ECU whether cylinder 1 or 6 has just finished its compression stroke.

Emerald K6 ECU worked for me on my m20 with Dbilas TB's, ran wasted spark and grouped injection. As above no Cam sensor but wouldn't be too hard to fit one with the dizzy removed.
On the M20 I doubt going COP & Sequential will see very big gains but not seen one done so who knows.
Kept the same ecu for the upgrade to s54, COP & full sequential injection, with full Vanos control.

EDIT: Custom made loom with modifications to the injector loom etc

The mileage improvement isn´t much to notice unless you spend the time tuning for economy which takes time on a DYNO.driftwood wrote:No cam sensor? So motronic doesn't do sequential injection? It will be based on finding the best injection angle.
The VEMS runs sequential but without allowing for timing when you don´t have a cam sensor. Peoples economy numbers seem to stay the same or improve as well as drivablity improves.
