new vanos seals mileage

my engine has done about 140-150K full service history from BMW up to 90k. All sounds good no faults codes no oil burning or water loss, is the vanos the key thing really to change to bring it back to life?

this line that changing vanos seals on an engine that is running fine will transform it is BS i did it and it may no difference except to my wallet in my m54 with 120k on.

Did you not notice the difference when changing them? Ive done loads and had nothing but good results especially with twin vanos engines, ive never heard anybody say it will 'transform your engine' but there is no denying its a job that needs doing if you understand the issue.

what i might do is unplug the VANOS solenoid and see the difference

i noticed the seals i removed were old and stiff but the car didn't run any better after the chnage excpet a little better mpg. I used the beisan systems seals.

Changing a knackered seal on a piston cup that is paramount to the control of cam timing can only improve things in my opinion.!
If they are gone or past their best of course its gunna have a negative effect on engine performance so new items WILL make the engine perform better
