Can anyone help, I have what I believe is an LSD from a previous e30. Certainly behaved like one should, I've removed and cleaned the tag and it has the number 0/41a6216s. Can anyone tell me if this means anything? Thanks in advance

The diff tag is not like one I have seen before.

Put the diff on the floor as it would be set in the car, grab both output flanges, try to turn them in opposite directions at the same time, if you can turn them in opposite directions you have an open diff, if they seem to be locked together and turn as one it is an LSD.

A crude test of the clutches in an LSD is to put two bolts in each side of the flanges and turn them against each other with a couple of breaker bars, they will turn but you will be working against the friction of the clutches. The harder it is to turn the less worn the clutches are. If you can work it to get a torque wrench on there, a figure of around 80nm is what the slip point should be for a diff in good condition.
