Ok so about 8 months ago i got a call!
Tone i`ve bought a motor...
E30 bit of a fixer upper but somthing i can play with on the week ends.
Now pel won`t mind me saying this, but he`s hardly mechanicly minded and my bestest friend he knows he can come to me for anything he needs afetr all he did drive from portsmouth to the other side of belgium to rescue me.
That kinda guy.
So i met up with him one saturday morning to go see this new project. well it drove is all i can say really. clearly the 318 had been owned by a youngster with a sense of humour.
We dragged it back to my yard and over time started ironing out the creases in the body work whilst we/he decided what the outcome was to be for his new toy.
i must say i`ve been a mechanic for nearly 20 years and built the odd weapon in my time. so when he mentioned the m50 transplant my pc took a hammering and the research began.
He is a member of this forum and pointed me to this site (which is fab by the way)
and so the story begins...
plenty of pics silly jokes and pratting around to follow

With the engine out a quick scout at the condition of the rack and cross member ect and it was to work on the m50.
E34 oil pick up and sump with new steel gasket fitted. it was time to jack her up.

A bit grubby this time going in. we`ll give her a splash of brute after paint
Operator aka PEL

slow progress this week as we both have young families
E36 slave cylinder fitted and E30 1.8 gearbox mount fitted up with E36 rubbers.
I have my doubts about the clutch arm so i want to get the clutch bled up this weekend to test it or it will have to be replaced when we strip it for paint.
also need to modify the gear linkage as the e36 one is to short. might work with the e30 fixing on the end we`ll see.
also need to order a new centre bearing as the original one is shot.

Up early this morning with the bug
Managed to complete the gear-linkage buy combining the m40 and m50 linkage.
Also got alot of the m40 wiring loom out and preped.
Anyone got a solution for the top heater matrix pipe/hose only 2mm away from the inlet manifold. i might just loop it and not connect the heater matrix up till i put the turbo inlet manifold on.
I also managed to pick up a new mig welder and an oxy/ acetylene set up this week so i can start fabricating bits again.

IT`S ALIVE!!!
Last night pel came round and we did the wiring coolent hoses and a bit of tinkering. would turn over lovely and fire on easy start but no go.
multi meter came out and no live to the fuel pump!
bridged the fuel pump relay and got squirted in the face with fuel.
still no go
everything was operational except no earth pulse to the injectors.
Time was ticking on and pels off on holiday today so we called it a night.
6 am this morning i sat bolt upright in bed (IMMOBILISER!!)
Dressed Tea and back down the garage wire cutters in one hand cigerette in the other i chopped the imobiliser out.
Turned the key to test for live and buzz of the pump and she fired straight up. sweet
Not sure my naibours will have appreciated the sound of a striaght six with no exhaust manifold at 7:25 AM!
Who cares its running lol

just had another hour down the garage
got all the wiring tidy`d up and old loom out.
Throttle cable fitted.
Aload of the bs wiring in the cab cut out(old stereo wires and carp)
Not sure if we are going to fit a temp cone to replace the air box on testing or if i should cut the mount away and use the E36 air box.
Running very nicley albeit a bit loud with no manifold!

MMM maybe chap i have a 4x4 cosworth turbo (t3) which has been sat in my garage for years. in the middle of stripping and rebuilding it at the moment the idea is to put the turbo on and fabricate to that and have it runn9ing no boost for testing then when we strip to paint the shell we`ll finish off the mods ect to wind her up.BATTS91 wrote:Turbo manifold ???? did i miss somthing here lol been watchin this space lol![]()
