Yo another thread!
need some help from all u heros!
Right so far i have
fitted a new door
cambelt done but i suppose they do not matter.
replaced all broken bulbs.
Fixed windscreen washer jets
Sorted rough idle
All the bulbs are working, brake lights, head lamps fogs etc they are all fine.
She stops nicely
Doesn't give any smoke when warm
No big clunks from the suspension
Only probs now are............
Wipers! arghhhhh they work really fast and on the slowest setting, but not on normal spped wipe and when u only want it to do it once! Why?
Replaced the relay today from a scrapped 69,000mile 320 SE! Still no luck.
Small chip on windscreen in drivers view? failure i think
Exhaust is rattling when u boot it? fail? Got the double clamp which bolts round the front section and onto the gearbox as this is missing. So i hope that stops that.
Bulb on speedo gone. Will i need this?!
Tyres all have loads of tread,
shes not terminally ill on rust, but i have not checked everywhere.
Couple of other niggles like the heated seats work now and then. And when they do they are not as hot as Demlotcrews any ideas?
Going to change all the locks and barrel so they work off one key. Should be fun..........
Also the central locking works but! they key only unlocks and will not lock? Central locking module? It all works manually fine
I need an aerial stalk? anyone as the bloody thing works but the mast is snapped off!
Will think of more anyoying things as they come
tall order cheers! We will get there in the end i hope!
Oh she nevers seems to warm up on the temp guage, nevers gets out the blue part. Even when it's warm? Thermostat?

ok...
you dont need a working speedo to pass an MOT
so bulb doesnt need to be on
as for the windscreen chip
* Damage larger than 10mm will fail in the drivers line of vision
* Damage larger than 40mm will fail in the rest of the swept area so go measure!
as for the exhaust sounds like that mount you have, but also check the one that holds the backbox on as they rot something chronic (replacemnet from BMW are Ԛ£23.4 inc all bolts
)
central locking-may be controller! I have one here Ԛ£15 posted to your door!
as for the thermostat, sounds like its stuck partially open, Ԛ£10 from GSF and an hours work replacing and bleeding should see you right!

The things it will fail on have been covered really, 320 touring is right about the chip any bigger than 10mm and it will fail if its in the drivers sight, although a fiver to the MOT'er might sort that.
The wipers to check them all they will do is pull the lever back, so it squirts and as long as it wipes at the same time it'll pass. But a pain in the ass for normal driving. A new motor or the technique argos mentioned usually works(think there might be a tech article on it)
The Mot certifcates in the garage i last took mine are all electronic, no more bits of paper to fill in, the emmisions and all the other points have to be entered on the screen for our best friends at the dvla/gov to cast there eye.
Then hopefully you'll have a nice new A4 printed MOT certificate.

the other thing is i don't think the engine number matches the car! I have no idea of the milege on it. Seems sweet, just needs the tappets doing really. ideal for 2.7 auto wrongness! might get the LSD to spin lol as it won't normally
Stuart can u do the chip too? Will get all the favours up to make the lounge re skim dead even then!
The wipers work fine when u squirt on the screen! yippee!

power steering seems a bit iffy and whiney but the fluid is still red not all minging and grey like it goes.

Failed
but all is not lost!
No problems with brake pipes or ant hideous rust i didn't spot before so
BUT!
headlamp aim too low both sides
split boot on power steering rack, advise on other side
ball joint worn offside
not enough washer fluid on the front windscreen as in not enough is coming through! anyone heard of this?! Got me lost i thought it was fine.
Advisory on front tyres worn on inside thats it i think.
So should be in for re test end of this week, so the auto slugger is nearly re born for an Ace appearance end of the month!

yes u just separate the tie rod from the strut and then u can get the gaiter off!
But u will need a balljoint splitter probably to get the tie rod off the strut

might be the pipes that go from the bottle to the spray 'bits' (mainly on the bonnet), i had to replace those on mine, every so often they would just get clogged up and the spray would kind of dribble out (when at its worst).Simon13 wrote:not enough washer fluid on the front windscreen as in not enough is coming through! anyone heard of this?! Right i've been busy on this all week, as i might have to use it now! Shes booked in for a retest monday
1 new control arm + lolly pop bush
2 new power steering gaiters
2 new front roll bar drop links
adjust brake pedal
headlamps aim adjusted
washer jets sorted
fitted my old m-tech 1 wheel
is lip spoiler
put my black bbs on too, looks a right old state! but they have really good tyres on them
washed and polished. This is the first time i've actually polished a turd!
I cleaned out all the arches and had a good look all over the car for rust!
She is one solid mofo, lots of surface scabs on doors and both rear arches but no holes.
Theres even no rust hole by the petrol filler neck behind the plastic flap in the arch!
So very solid structurally but looks tatty!

the wiper motor is prob a little rusty inside, spray the motor with WD40 and leave it on full with the wipers off the glass for a while then try it. happens to mine when it sits for a few months lolSimon13 wrote:excellent guys! i'm needing inspiration to get here going! As it's agood little car!
