Cheers mate. I looked on that before but mine is a 1987 320. Which as far as i can see comes with one of two systems.Grrrmachine wrote:http://www.e30zone.net/e30zonewiki/inde ... st_of_ECUs

Thats what i thought would be best. Is it actually written on it somewhere?diable wrote:or check your ECU as someone may have swapped it over or it may not be compatible with the one you have.

If your car is an '87, you're going to have to physically look at the ECU. There's no other way to confirm it.

Have a look at this ECU:
http://allegro.pl/komputer-m20b25-0-261 ... 92402.html
You can clearly see the code number on the big sticker, it's the last three numbers you need.
As an aside, I have one of Speedtouch's "Mild" chips for a 320 if you're interested

You don't have to open the ECU; just look at the metal tabs underneath from the cover that fold over the base (you'll understand when you see it). If those tabs look chewed or scratched, then the cover's been off at some point, usually for chipping. If they're clean, no chip.

Alas, a 309 on a 1987 320i will be analogue L-Jetronic, and can't be chipped unlike the later Motronic.
Your only option, should you wish to chip it, is to convert to Motronic 1.3.

Cool ok mate. My car would be a pain in the ass. I'll put a wanted post up. Is it a pain in the rectum to convert to the other ECU?
