M635CSi - the last real drivers BMW with the classic sharknose styling.

E34 M5 was a pretty impressive Q-Car as well.

My ultimate retro BMW has to be an e28 Alpina B7S turbo, gorgeous motor

Extract from BMW Car
In the 1980s many people had money to burn, and it is thanks to them Alpina and Hartge found a ready market for their wild Fives.

Back in the 1980s economies were booming and there were plenty of well heeled individuals who were prepared to pay handsomely for something a little bit more exclusive than your standard BMW. Although the original M5 was not a run of the mill machine, both Alpina and Hartge offered alternatives which were snapped up by the rich businessmen after an individual touch. Given the excellence of BMW's own product could it be that two small but dedicated manufacturers could actually improve on the M5?

The above extract went on to say 'no one would believe this car could frighten any supercar you wish to name. It should therefore come as no surprise that the B7 Turbo was much quicker than Munich's finest put quite simply, the performance of the Alpina is awesome 0-125mph in 17 secs and a top speed of 168mph is simply super car performance'

When I first drove one of these cars I simply could not believe the performance. It completely annihilated an E34 M5 3.8 we had in stock.Suffice to say the acceleration rivals that of a 964 RS Carrera. One of our cars was road tested in BMW Car Feb 2000 and we have copies of the road test for any potential buyer.

If it has to be modern then I'd have an e39 540i, beautiful shape with a nice V8

Cheers,

Iain T

E34 M5 the last of the truly over engineered cars

E30 and E34 are bmws best, in the middle of both old skool and modern.

Easy enough to work on, plus massive tuning options that other bmw models just don't have etc

Nah, you want it with no options so it's lighter and goes quicker!

my favorite is the 320is, the italian m3, the forgotten one if you will. you could badge it as an ///M or just leave the 320 badge on there(people will get a shock when they try and race you) awesome!

Its hard to name my favourite bmw, there have been many great ones. I have driven just about every single model bmw built from 88 on, most of them dozens of times , the one that is the most amazing to drive is the new e60 m5. It is very quick, handles great, a real rush to drive. But if i had to pick one for a favourite is got to be my e30 m3. :D
