I use Macs anyway.

I have a skeleton case but there's no hole for an external mic to plug into.

In that case it is probably one from a HD Hero 1 which afaik didn't come with external mic input :)

If you get used to editing you can buy motion 5 and correct the awful rolling shutter you get with GoPro's :(

After seeing my mate use contour cameras i would be looking towards one of them. The image quality is very very good and so is the sound.

This is the last video he did. Obviously drift cars are very loud, but the contours coped with sound level ok judging by the result. There are a few clips from inside the cars in a row at about 52 seconds in and make sure you click on 720p not the standard ghay 360p non HD quality.

I watched that video recently. Absolutely awesome and amazing quality! Did your friend make it? A good number of the drift videos are absolutely awesome.

Yeah, my mate made it. I am one of his photographers for Aatomotion, we're both off to london this weekend for round 2 of the european drift series :D He certainly has a knack for it. He has recently worked on a small film to be played on a 360 degree screen in weymouth for the olympics :D ( www.beneath360.com)

Unfortunately not, I was still in my apprenticeship at the time and couldn't take the time out to go :( Im gutted its not on this year, but hey bigger and better things ;) I love the whole drift scene tbh. Awesome cars, incredible skill and from my experience they are a great laugh and they all help each other out.

Absolutely, I completely agree. It's very fun (I've never driven at a drift day), but sitting in my brother's car is always fun, and the general humour/great cars/relaxed attitude is great at drift days.

Shame about not having an awesomefest this year, hopefully there will be something next year that will have similar levels of awesome to the Awesomefest 2011 winkeye

Only the in car footage looks like Contours, the arty shots are clearly a DSLR with a prime and the high speeds track side drfts are with a regular prosumer camera, then everything gets colour graded and you get that modern desaturated look. You can see it suffers from the same rolling shutter as the GoPro.

Not sure the Contours is worth the £499 where some of the Panasonic Consumer 1080p cameras are much better value especially when not limited by weight if not needed to be fixed to a helmet.

Yes, i said the few clips inside the car. Everything else is shot with a dslr, and i don't know the exact lenses he used for what bits. I thought the contours were only about £200, not £500 but i suppose it depends on which model you go for.

Pretty much set for Wednesday apart from a safety tether so that they allow the suction mount. Think I'm going to use imovie as seems pretty straightforward.

Looks good Mark!

Please if you can, put the mic in to the engine bay wrapped in cloth, you will not be disappointed in the results ;)
