right errm well when i bought my car the previous owner said someone tryed ramming a screwdriver in the passenger lock to try and break in , the lock has never locked or unlok the car since ive had it looks buggered like this

Image

now my ignition and drivers door are the same key , the boot is a diffrent key and glovebox i dont have a key for ,

im thinking the chances are its a diffrent key to what i have but looking here at this pic you may be able to see 3 pins all the way up ,
Image

and all thos pins go down when i use the key for drivers door and ignition ?
Image

should this mean that the lock should work as when i put the boot key in some pins stay up ? :/

any help/advice would be greatfull as i dont mind the boot being a diffrent key and ive never locked a glovebox in my life lol
thanks james

If you really feel that you need to lock the passenger door with the key,I would buy a 'lock repair kit' from the stealer for about £20.
this gives you all the bits you need to build a replacement lock barrel to suit your chosen key.

When the key is inserted you have to have all the pins level with the barrel...that is how it is able to turn.

A quick fix is to insert the key fully and file all the protuding pins flat or else you can buy the pins and replace them all....the pins have a number stamped on them and you need to get the correct numbers and fit them in the correct order.

I had the same issue on my 318i...someone stuck a screwdriver in the barrel and broke it like yours. At the same time my other locks had become fiddly to open due to wear on the pins and a wearing-out key.

I had some new keys cut and did the filing down trick on all the faulty barrels with the new key.
