As i do with any new car, im replacing the leads, plugs, cap, and arm. Bought the bits from the stealers as i want everything bm. Anyway thats beside the point. The leads. Took them off from the plugs and i went to disconnect the lead that comes off a lead and goes way down to the depths and plugs in next to what looks like the pulse wheel. Anyone whos done it will know what i mean as my technical terms are laughable. Anyway it is well on and doesent seem to want to come off. Before i take it off tho i want to make sure ive got the right leads as im not convinced. The bit in question down below seems round, but the one the dealer has supplied below seems square. Any ideas whether or not ive got the right bit? Possible hes given me a bit for a 318i instead of a 6i as mine is, or are they the same?

If you want everything bm, go to the dealership, you will get a surprise......some things are cheap!

I did go to the Dealers! I call the dealers The Stealers! I never go anywhere else for the bits. Anyone any idea if this bits right or not?

This is the ignition pulse lead and goes down to the engine loom underneath the inlet manifold iirc, the timing wheel also has a sensor with a similar plug and they both follow the same route around the front of the engine.

On the socket there is a metal clip holding it in, press the clip in and pull the plug out.

It's been a while since I worked on an M40 but I did replace this sensor once and it's definately not plugged in by the timing wheel.

Have a good look and trace it back from the ignition leads.

The plug in your pic looks correct.

Cheers,
