Whats the best best looking supercar?

I'm unsure of my favourite at the moment as i just started this post before i even thought about it. Which probably means i dont really care :) But off the top of my head its got to be the f40.

I'm interested in what you guys think.

Shame on you Morrison ! If you think one of them sorry , albeit fast carbuncles is better looking than a Muira/Boxer/Bora/288GTO etc , you have obviously been spending too much time thrashing furiously over them Peugeot 505 GTI brochures I lent you ! 8O

It's got to be old. An early Countach, 512BB Boxer, Maserati Bora. The M1 is a nice looking thing. Of all the moderns, the Audi R8.

Ive never been a fan of the muira, but i can understand the impact they had at the time. The early countach is more my bag and again must looked out of this world on release. I think they still looked good in their later guise regardless of all the spoilers and arches.

The best Lambo will always be a Muira... Ferrari 288GTO was beautiful as well.. too many to mention in general, but late 90's onwards things took a turn for the worst in terms of looks....

The last truelly beautiful Ferrari was the F355 in Spider form imo.....

I'm not normally a Ferrari fan, but the 275GTB4 takes a bit of beating:-

Countach is my all time number 1 - the early 80's one with the rear wing & arches is the t1ts.

Only one i didnt really like was the run-out Anniversary (??) one.

Never liked those - they remind me of a fat labrador. Too much body, not enough roof. A Series 1 FHC E Type is much prettier, as is a 1963 split window Corvette Stingray.

Early E type *is* lovely and at least as pretty as the 275GTB4. It provided supercar looks and performance at executive saloon prices. But is part of the superior thing not that it needs to be ludicrous expensive?

As the custodian of a one owner from new '66/67 Split Window Corvette Stingray (purchased for me by a comparatively wealthy indulgent grandmother), I'm a bit biased, but the performance of mine does feel a bit pedestrian and though expensive even in the day, it wasn't supercar money either.

It could well be. The first true Supercar was the Miura, but the E Type made all the sixties front engine Italian stuff as well as Aston Martins look silly. Okay, it wouldn't really do 150 mph (unless it had racing tyres) but it was reasonably well constructed and reliable.
Of all the sixties Ferarris, the 250GT Lusso, 365GTC and 330 America do it for me.

As for real supercars, this is probably The Man:

Some years back at a car show I had the pleasure of talking to a guy who worked as a salesman for a Surrey Jaguar dealership in the '60's.

He told the tale this tale regarding the E Type's launch....

'The factory driver told us to find a local dual carriageway of at least a mile in length,remember that this was England in 1961(!),and take the prospect out and wind the car up toward it's maximum speed...at about the halfway point,with the speedo hovering around 125/130mph,the prospect(who would not usually be wearing a seatbelt)would be gripping the dash with whitened knuckles yelling;
'Yes!!,I'll buy one!! Just slow down....'

This guy then went on to tell me that he would then offer the prospect a Daimler SP250,similar straight line grunt but not quite as good in the twisty's,for slightly more cash...but available from stock, sir!

This one for me :

I have an "Athena" style framed pic of a white countach in my bathroom that I've had since 1986 - the Mrs hates it but I refuse to take it down as it was here before she was :chuckle:

I'm another one for the F40 , but I love it in the LM form.

Current super car would be the Zonda 722 , which is the R on the road. On YouTube Evo magazine did a nice report on it.

I'd vote either the De Tomaso Pantera but a later one with the huge spoilers or a 288GTO

I love the Pantera's. Spoilered or no. And a Muira is lovely looking thing if not a bit of an engineering turd.

I'm a bit biased as my old man has an E-Type that he may leave to me when he pops his clogs. Hope he puts the fecker back together first as I know fuck all about it. :) He spends too much time on that fecking boat of his just now to do me that favour though.

IIRC the bulge in the bonnet indicates it has the gnarly 7.0 /7.5 big block .

These 'hybrid' supercars were mostly all killed off by the fuel crisis of the early 70s and were shunned for years by badge snob enthusiasts. The tables have turned and in many cases they are now more valuable than their branded competitors :D
Alas it means that I have more chance of owning a 550 than a Grifo/375l/HK500 etc :(

This car says "I'm considerably richer than yow!" as per the old harry enfield quote. :)

Seriously beautiful car which would have looked almost spaceship like when it was released in 1974, and was a massive change of style compared to most of the super cars that came before it with their rounded and curved bodies. And they still use the styling cues to this day.

^^^ Spot on. The dogs.

XJ220 never did it for me. It was never what was originally envisaged (quad cam V12) and the price rocketed from the price the poor b4stards that put deposits down, signed up to. Hence there were so many left unregistered I believe.

Yes it was quick but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and in my eyes, the above blows the ugly cat out of he door.
