Hi there, the flywheel will need machining down to flush with the ring gear on the engine side, then how ever much you want, or feel comfortable scolloping it out. Next it thould be balanced, when new BMW balanced the bottom end to within an inch of its life, and is so important to do so again, the more material that is removed the more potential there is for the fly wheel to be inbalanced.

How much weight should be removed? I know it's dependant on application but is there a guide?

I do a range of light weight flywheels, new chromoly billet steel, dynamically balanced and for all engien and clutch applications. An M20 flywheel for example weighs 8.5kgs standard, mine weigh 4.5 kgs for standard clutches, 3.5 for race paddle clutches. PM me if interested.
Call me on 07858 151 197 - leave a message if no answer as i am probably busy! Will call you back!
Please email thru the website as not always on the zone for pm's.
Thanks
