Good effort Ferg!! Shame the diffin crew did some prep work on the bonnet, roof & boot, would've been nice to have got it all back to Henna that easily.

My fog may be fooked but it'll still have the buckets/brackets if they're needed.

Another update - good to meet you today Sir, and see the poor Turd!

UDP260Y was it's first number plate and it looks like it was a Bracknell car. It was sold in either late 83 or early 84 as a used car with 6000 miles via New Central Garage in Chobham. The oddball 'OI' number plate was added in the eightoes and was on the car until 2000 - that's probably when the guy traded it in for an E46 323i.
His name and address are in the Approved Used Car paperwork - chances are he still lives there.

According to BMW GB, 'OI' is the number plate because that's what it had on the last time it was seen by a dealer.

Overall it's not bad at all, a very clean original shell needing some fettling on the arches (I don't think they need replacing), a pair of wings and a paint job. The bumpers look like they might straighten. The engine bay will come up a treat with a good steam clean.

Cheers Andy, like I said I expected worse so am pretty pleased with it!

Once i bought it I got back in touch with the ebay seller and asked for the "box of spares" that came with it in the advert aas Hussain never picked those up. I wonder what is in there, hopefully some original parts?? EDIT: and a set of spare keys would be nice :)

Either way a good read through the old history file and some random knowledge from Andy revealed some cool stuff about this car.

BTW, was loving the big 7

Old MOT's and receipts, it is pretty in depth and I am surprised (with the state of the car) that history is still there. All good though :)

there's a breaker near me like that. he encourages you to take the parts off before his astronomic valuation. a friend noticed some freewheeling hubs on an old series landy & the guy quoted in excess of retail.

the other breaker less than 50 yards away is the exact opposite, it's a flat rate of £5 for misc bits, and then we haggle :-D

This was a 323i auto and was for sale in June 07 in TBMW. I can't remember what the guy was asking at the time.

Here is the photo used in the ad, when it was still red.

IIRC the mileage was pretty low at that point.

Do you fancy bringing your car up to the Glamis Castle Classic Car show this year - 8th July and we've got a stand up there every year and we're shy on historic chromies.

I can do this shell. Do side repeaters need to be on those wings or is it a lucky model?

I think we should hoist the donk. Paint the bay and inner wings while we r at it. The boot and
Inner shell needs no work. One of you OEM homos could cast a final eye over the prep with the 'stone guard' and all the precise markings. Andyboy will you do the honour? I don't want finger pointing when it's too late!!

Could well do, yes.

Can't believe it's been turned from a nice original car into a shitheap in just 5 years - unreal. Scary to think that you could preserve a car in nice condition for so long, only for some dickhead to ruin it so comprehensively.

It was up for £2750 by Andy Law, and had recently been painted. According to the write up it had a nice interior as well. Now 50 feet down in a landfill site somewhere. :(

I've banged off an email to someone I know in Munich - they may be able to get an exact built date. They did for the blue 730i.

With regards to the interior, I'd still be looking at a decent Comfort black leather - maybe even a different colour and then recoloured. A tired 30 year old cloth interior wouldn't do it any favours, but black leather certainly would. The other Henna red car wants raping for bits though.
