My kids have been complaining that with the roof down the rear seat of my factory cabby is not a pleasant place to be at anything over 30mph.

Would a baur be any better?

Advantage with the Baur here is that the rear roof section can be left up when the rear seat is occupied, the 'lift off' roof panel will act like a big saloon sunroof.

My cabbie is used mainly as a two seater, front windows up,rear windows down, windblocker up! On the rare occaisions that one or two extra passengers are carried,it's either for a short in-town trip,or the hood's up.
Youth is wasted on the young.

Its a lot calmer in the back seat of a baur, even with the hard targa off and the roof down. The solid sides are the reason i think.

I like my baur as its very versatile. If i just want to take the front targa section off i can leave the rear folding roof up and vice versa.

It really is a personal thing though, most of the zoners on here dont like baurs but i get a really good reaction from the normal person in the street.

Baurs are very light too, in fact they are the lightest E30 out of all models, no scuttle shake and no massive heavy sills and big blocks in the boot to weigh you down. If you can get a very rare early 325i version i think you would be surprised at the raw speed you will have. Very fast imho. My last outing to a drag strip turned up a 15.8 second quarter mile. I was only 1 second behind a m50'd E30 with a viper chip and a lightened flywheel and lsd. Not bad i thought as my car at the time was running like a bag of pap, up on stilts and an open diff.
it was wet on the strip too.

hope this helps

Same things were said about my Neon Green cabbie, probably by the same zoners!

But the number of non-zoners who comment on the 'stunning colour' proves how narrow-minded some zoner's are.

I was driving my two kids around in my standard cab at the weekend with the roof down - they were complaining about the wind and noise, but I just went faster to drown them out!

Having said that though, I drove to work this morning with the hood down, all windows up, the heater on (it was still pretty cold at 7am) and the radio as well, and I have to say I was surprised how pleasant an environment it was. Even at motorway+ speeds ( 8O ), I was able to hear the radio without turning it up that much and I only had a bit of buffeting on my left shoulder.

Yeah, the side windows were all up otherwise mrs stew72 would be complaining too.

My thoughts about the baur were that although the area of teh side windows look the same their structure combined with the way the hold folds would help things.

Any baur owners interested in swapping for a neon blue design cab?

I did a few miles in the cabby over the weekend (at last).

With all four windows down, the rear seats are a nightmare to be in if you are travelling at anything over 20 mph. The misses looked like a dandilion clock when she go out!! :D

You could just buy mine as an experiment to see if there's any improvement :)
