Hey all,

ive just changed the sump in my 325i e30 m20 engine. rather than taking engine out i lifted it enough to be able to undo the oil pump and slide it out.

new sump went on with the same process (and yes i made sure the connecting rod from the gear to the pump was located correctly), put it all back together and fired it up.

noticed a rumbling about 30 secs later when i revved the engine, looked inside the filler cap and it was bone dry.

off came the rocker cover and disconnected the coil lead and spun it over and nothing was coming out of the oil feed rail.

Any ideas? would be much appreciated :) Cheers

Had a real problem with airlocked pump a couple of months ago, top tip from Ant (but a bit of a faff when your engine is already built up)

Line up the timing and remove timing belt, then battery drill directly on to the oil pump pulley (15 or 16mm nut from memory) and start winding.

do you think i would be able to fill the lower part of the sump pan up and submerge the pump and prime it manually by turning the connecting shaft? then fit it in pit stop time? :P
