Fantastic thread, can't wait to see this finished. Glenn, you are an inspiration! 8)

By the way, do you do private work on E30s? I have an E36 M3 evo and an E30, combining the two would be great.. The E36 is not the cleanest example, wouldn't be too much of a shame to break it...

a little update.........
i have to run a pipe along the nearside chassis rail, for the heater matrix, so i thought it best to refit the exhaust manifold heat shields, for a little extra protection. also note i've blanked off both banks emission control connections.....

Image

the offside heat shield fitted. power steering bottle fitted.....

Image

original air-filters refitted. new filters will be fitted once i'm happy with the conversion.
the airboxes are fixed in place, although i still have to 'seal' them up. they'll work 'as is', but i'll need to seal them to stop warm air getting in.....

Image

Image

the aircon pump has been removed. to keep the power steering pump working, i've fitted a smaller belt, and removed a deflection pulley....

Image

also fitted this, many thanks atul (pukar) ....

Image

some random pics.....

Image

Image

Image

Image

still got lots to do, but i feel like i'm making good progress.
hopfully, it should be ready for it's first start, in a few weeks.

power steering all piped up.
i decided to use an e36 m3 evo radiator i had here, as it was biggest i had here that would fit without cutting the chassis rails. it worked perfectly with the s62, so hopefully it'll be ok for this too.
all the coolant pipes fitted, except for the heater matrix connections. i'll do them when i tackle fitting the electronic throttle pedal, as i need to get the car out of the garage to open the drivers door :(
oil cooler fitted. also fitted the remote oil filter housing and connected the pipework from the engine. the pipes from the filter to the cooler were damaged, so i'll need to get another set off a breaker, to finish the oil system off. i test fitted the bumper several times, to make sure it all mated up without fouling anything.

is the upside down filter housing going to work? I thought about doing this but gravity swung me away from the idea :?

Interested to know the answer to this.

this is how it is on the E60 M5 adem.

the big plastic nut has a drain plug in the centre of it, to drain the oil filter housing of oil, when changing the filter.

You dont think it will be a problem with the radiator, since the m5 radiator has 4 connections and the water goes both ways?

the m5 radiator has 4 connections because it's actually 2 radiators, one on top of each other.
this radiator is the biggest i had here that would fit without cutting the chassis rails.
if it proves to be not big enough, i'll get one made that has a wider core. but dont forget, the m5 will have been tested to cope with being in the desert.

I would be surprised if that S50 rad couldnt cope, the only thing you might struggle with though is airflow, because of how close it is to the engine. Would be worth filling the gaps at the top/sides IMO 8)

got the car out of the garage this afternoon, so i could sweep out the garage,
car is looking very dusty now, but i cant give it a wash as the screens still arn't fitted yet.
'homemade' exhaust made and fitted. 2x 64mm pipes, 2x straight through boxes. i cut the tail-pipes at different length's as i thought it looked better.
fitted a small windsreen washer bottle behind the offside headlight. i found it in amongst some of my my scrap, i think it came off an e46.
not much longer now......... :D

here you go dez,
once i've put a few miles on her, i'm going to get a decent system made up,
but i needed something to be able to start the car and have it roadworthy.
a scrap yard i use regularly has new 'scrap' exhausts in from a local exhaust manufacturer,
so this system is made up of mostly this stuff.
the ends of the oem manifolds are 63/64mm, and so are the pipes i used, except the tail pipes are 70mm.
the backbox is one i made up using one and a half jaguar boxes i joined together (straight through)
but just as a precaution, i put in another small box in the middle of the system (again straight through).

Great work on the exhaust, building a custom exhaust on a car in a garage is a PITA when every time you want to check the fitment you have to grovel about on the floor dragging the system in rested on your chest, then you catch you nose on the car floor and pull your head away only to wack it on the floor... Been there done that!

its like you must have been watching me matt :D
tacking parts together with enough weld so that when you remove the system.....again, it remains in the position you wanted it, not enough room under there to wear the mask, and spatter landing either on your t-shirt, or in your ear!

It's insane with the amount of space you have when working on the car. Isn't it time to invest in a bigger garage?

that would mean he might not have been able to invest in the S85... or the S62, the S54 or the other S62 :P

Have to give huge credit where its due for doing all this stuff in a small garage!

my 'little' garage is just fine 8)
doing some jobs in there are obviously a bit more difficult, but i can do most of what i need, without too much of a problem.

i hope to fire it up in a few weeks.
basicly,
i just have the engine wiring to do, plus the fuel system to do.
the fuel system is a lot more involved than i first thought.......but i'm working on it.....a lot more parts to get.....
