Baur 335i project
Moderator: martauto
Thanks Alex, really want to see it through but as I have said will probably only get to finish the body work and then it will have to go.Spoke to the landlord and he has told me that his leasehold is expiring in March,he does not think that he will be able to extend it and he also thinks that the owner is considering selling to property developers. The prices in East London have raised due to the olympics which has caused a lot of the local garages round my way to be ripped down and developed into flats. At the moment my only alternative is to get 2 garages in North Weald (epping)where my friend is doing his project.Tbh its only £7.50 a garage per week in epping compared to £14 in East London but travelling there would make up the difference and I do not have the security of being able to go past it on the way to work to make sure all is good.Major dillema at the moment
Can't believe it either Mick, hopefully theres a E30 god up there somewhere. Was just about going to get another e30 convertible but that is currently on hold until I know more (fingers crossed).baur320 wrote:Chris, I can't believe after all your work it's come to this.
Hope it turns out right for you.

Fed up!!
Nothing seems to be going right today.
-Primed my boot and some idiot deceided to touch it to see if the primer was dry,now I have 2 fingerprints to deal with.
-Whilst the boot was drying I deceided to spray the back bumper strip in candy apple red.Silver went on fine folowed by the red then as I put the lacquer on it reacted and started cracking/peeling.
Will post some pics later but from what I can gather the whole back bumper is gonna need re-painting,so fed up that I might just smooth the bumpers now but not sure how its gonna look.Really do not need this right now as you can gather from my last post I need to get the bodywork finished before my garage space is gone.
I need a beer.

So heres todays progress or step backwards now that the bumper has reacted:
Boots done will fit it on Monday:

Snoops your indicators are done, look darker than they actually are:

And the bumper
looks o.k in first pic:

Not sure why it has reacted but seems to be in that area only.

Thanks mate, bodywork will definetely be finished before garage goes, considering leaving it at my mates garage so that he can do the engine. His gonna get the boys to do the work in there down time so that it takes longer and costs less.In this time I should be able to find another garage.Still means that I have got to get rid of the calypso e30 and find storage for all the other stuff. At least I get to keep the Baur thoughgooner1 wrote: Best of luck mate.

looks awesome fella, will have a few pics of my baur up for all to see shortly as I got it taxed and on the road finally after 2 years of having it taking up space in my workshop lol. They are great motors and I'm in love with it already
So dont give up and keep it you will not be sorry!

So been let down again and with regret the baur and other doner/parts needs to go.My friend was going to put it in his garage and do the engine work but he has let me down and my garage has to be handed back at the end of the month.Really can not risk losing these to the council so no alternative but to sell them.Everything has to go and there is a lot that is not listed. If the reserve is not met I will have to consider selling seperately but please do not contact me with any offers until auction ends(if it does not sell).
Not happy at the moment so am going to get absolutely plastered and see how many birds I can pull with my John Travolta moves.

Hello all,
Been away for a while but safe to say I still own the baur all be it that I have not touched it since around May.Been away due to work and a bit of travelling in India. So quick update the engine is booked in to get changed on the 15th Jan then its going to the paint shop to get its new colour. Will be bugging people for info on the engine swap as I am not sure how much electric work I will have to do.Its from a H reg 320i and mine is currently a 316 carb, some are gonna say why a 2.0l but at the moment it will be all I can get insured on due to a few points and a driving ban.The new colour is going to be white (the new m3 white) with black wheels/polished edge.Hopefully it should be completed by April seen as someone else is doing it for me,only thing left will be the interior re-trim which I am not in a hurry to do as the houndstooth m3 interior is in good condition anyway.Lets hope the new year brings good things and it will finally make it to a car show after being off road for 4 years..

nice one mate, just read the thread today, the m30 install is easy, done mine a few months back, but still if insurance is the main killer for the engine, but have you had a quote???? you may be surprised.
Mine was a 320i cab now a 335i and the insurance premium only went up £60.00 for the car f/c.
Try it an see, btw it was Adrian Flux who im with.

how much will you be looking for?BAUR335I wrote:Might consider selling the 3.5 engine mounts and engine etc just to clear some space in my garage.

felt so proud, even tried it with a E30 325i and got put in my place..
Open to sensible offers,TBH the engine has been sat in my garage for nearly 4 years so not sure if its any good, never saw it running either.Although the dog leg box that came with it was perfect and is still being used now with no probs. Its not from a e34 either its from a m535i which I believe means bashing the bulkhead around to get it to fit? It did come from a e30 so I presume the sump etc has been changed and I was told it should bolt straight in,but as I said never saw it in the car or running so its up to the buyer to make sure it is what they want.

Yes Chris you need to get on with the job in hand, this car could look the business once she done or maybe if there was a case of Fosters hidden in your car somewhere!you'd be driving it..
They don't make bm's like this anymore!..They should.

Ha Ha theres a half bottle in the glovebox, but thats in my conservatory at home. Testing times lads, still love the e30's but lost interest over the years. Dont get me wrong coming to the shows at ace etc has really pushed me to get this done. But and there is a very big one,its been sat for two years in the eliments and to be honest i just have the feeling that its going to be to far gone rust wise to put the money back into it. kol just rang me and has told me the transfer date on his new property so once i get the car there the diagnosis will be made.
As bad as it sounds something is saying break it and buy another? at least it will be recycled into a few beer kegs.
But thanks tony/kev and kol. if its a keeper its still going to take a while to complete, but at least my passion will be back and another e30 saved, even if it is more bruvved up than kols?
now f off the lot of you cos i av a beer to drink!
kev i dont drink all the time mate, dont drink on tuesdays? ha ha

OK, so trying to get this project back on road and back on E30 meets.
Might seem like a hard struggle to get done but I know I have a few fellow zoners that are willing to offer there time to help to get it there. Kol is offering the storage and thru the education of zoners I know this can be wired up and on its way to a few shows. Promise a few pizzas and a beer if your not driving. Look forward to anyone that puts there name forward for the job in hand, car will be local to rainham within a weeks time.
