ok background info..

it used to work via the keyfob for my alarm but as far as i remember it never worked via the key in the door. not too worried about it locking via key its the RCL i want to fix.

so the story goes.. it was working 100% till one day we did a bit of welding in the back and upper area of the front passengers side wheel arch. after the welding i went to lock the car to find it wouldnt lock with the keyfob. i checked the fusebox and found fuse 27 was blown. i replaced the fuse and the new one blew on contact. i havent even looked at it since then and have been locking the doors thru the passengers door (drivers wont lock with the key oddly).

so i just opened up a bit of the loom in the footwell and lifted the fusebox upper half and all wires i can see look ok so im guessing its somewhere between under the fuse box and where i cant see up to in the footwell. i checked across the terminals for fuse 27 and im getting 12v but my multimeter is only rated for 10a and it pops a 10a fuse so i dont want to be checking current and messing up my multimeter. i get continuity between the red/black wire in the footwell and the pin where fuse 27 goes so that seems fine. i noticed the other pin is on a circuit board in the fusebox upper half and im wondering if anyone knows which wire coming off the board goes to that pin for fuse 27 so i can trace it and hopefully find where its been shorted. i know it says on the wiki page all positives are red so i know it will be red but dont know which. i will try checking for continuity between that pin and the res wires coning off the board but if i get continuity on more than maybe 2 wires ill be up the creek without a paddle. if its only on 2 wires then i may have found the problem and will just need to find out where they have shorted together.

also can anyone tell me what amperage of fuse i should be using for fuse 27? its been that long that i cant remember what the original one was.

fairly sure i found atleast 2 wires shorted together where the wires pass through the firewall in the passengers side footwell behind the glovebox. the groub of wires have a tag on them in the footwell saying "kabelmetal electro gmbh FLOSS" and the numbers 1386 258 1, E 3294 A b, 755 510-72 on it. i tried a quick google search but nothing is coming up.. what is this group of wires for?

i seperated the wires and taped them up and all is working as it was previously.

this was the problem.. casings on all had melted but looks like the blue was shorted to the red (may be red/black, never noticed black on it though).
