It started on Friday. Driving to work and temp, fuel, mpg and tacho gauge drop. It also stops clocking miles. Turn off ignition and the only warning light I have is battery. Clock and radio and dash illumination work but dip beam headlights don't work either. Changed fuse. All came back to life for 20 mins and dropped off again. Any ideas. It's an 88 m40 car

Wiring from gear lever grommet to the reverse light switch on the gearbox, underneath the car.
Pull up the gear lever gator inside the car and disconnect a two pin plug and socket (green/white and blue/yellow wires) near the base of the gear lever to provide a confirmation/ temporary cure.

What's the cure normally? Il stick a new fuse in and give it a go. Is that reversing light wiring? Cheers

find where it has worn through and is touching the metallic chassis
