Post a pic up of your tool and we'll tell you what you're doing wrong.

I bought the cheapest clumsiest piece of sh!t you could find and it still knocked out perfectly usable flares.

Your pictures are tiny so I can't see if the flare is any good or not, but the kit looks the same as the others I've used. You haven't photo'd the step where you use the tap inside the pipe first, before you flare it out again with the winder tool. Are you doing that? Does the kit even come with a set of taps?

I used one of those cheap ones for a few pipes and found it a pain to use.

The next time I spent a bit more, about £30 on one of these, easier and quicker to use with more consistent results.

The most important thing I found was to make sure te end you're trying to flare is perfectly straight and cut square.
cheers,

To be honest mate your brakes are very important and your safety comes first, I had a set the same as yours and it was shit, I bought the lazer tool and have had much better results, you need dies 3/16 should be right size roughly, What brake pipe are you using as some are harder to make a flare as the material is harder to compress,

I have a similar tool to the OP's, which I bought to make flares on 6mm and 8mm copper tube for LPG. Never managed to make a decent flare with it yet!
Fortunately I have a forty year old tool for brake pipes which makes perfect flares in copper, copper alloy or steel.

Well I have copper lines so there nice and soft, I managed to make a die for 3/16 so I can achieve the double faire on the line. Seems to be holding up good but trying to bleed the lines on my own is near on impossible so there's loads of air in the lines still.
I was starting to lose the will to live trying to get all the air out so I gave up till tomorrow.

Looks like old Skool tool wins again then Brian

Must just be me that can get those to work then. I gave done a couple of cars with one and not had a leak.

In a pinch a die can be made by cutting a flexi hose connector off and brazing a nail into the hole. I did that for a car with unusual size fittings and as yet it has proven to be the best die i have.
