I have my bloody test at end month & I heard that if your ABS light is not working on the dash its a fail. When i bought the car the light was on but it went out about two years ago & the ABS is not working but its gone through the test twice with no fails !!. What are the usual causes ...abs pump failure or just a sensor ??

it could be the ABS relay which is above the glovebox. This tends to short when you jump start the car.
with regards to why the light is not on i'm not sure. you could check that the wire is actually plugged into the back of the cluster and also check the bulb.

I wouldn't expect to find this 'relay' on a 1990 car, since it was only fitted to earlier stuff, but the first thing to do is establish whether you have one or not.dusty23 wrote:it could be the ABS relay which is above the glovebox. This tends to short when you jump start the car.
Remove the inspection panel above the glovebox, and look to see if there is a silver coloured 'relay' sized box clipped to the upper side of the body coloured metalwork that the plate that carries the glovebox catch bolts onto.
If the bulb was continuously lit for over two years, then it probably has failed, so that needs to be replaced as well.
