Basically when I Lock the car it has a very vague dead feeling, as in it is too smooth when locking, and when I try to dead lock the car it sort of springs back to the vertical position.

However when I do manage to get it in the dead-lock position (horizontal), and I try to unlock it it will not move without persuasion i.e. forcing it a little bit then it opens after a struggle...

Help me as it is really f***ing me off

Thanks in advanced

Forgot to mention the passenger side works fine, although it does not have the dead-lock feature it still springs back and locks nice and solid, only thing is driver side is weak and sluggish.

Do you need to dead lock it? Forcing it open again and again could snap your key.

As far as i know you have to give it some to dead lock it but not struggle as you say.

WD40 FTW. :D

That is a nice link supplied by Benhar.

If you cannot get the re-build kit then with the barrel assembly removed...check that with a key inserted fully the brass tumblers are all flush with the side of the barrel.

If not...ie. some are protuding...then file them down flush, while the key is inserted. :)

I've tried WD40 although it makes it slightly smoother still a numb feeling if you catch my drift...

I have central locking, works fine from the boot and passenger side, just recently been getting sluggish and a retarded feel when locking, and always tries to spring back to the vertical position!

Dont think there was remote locking on the E30 as new, most likely added afterwards

I had this problem with mine untill I noticed a slight twist in my key. Put my key in a vice for a day to straighten them up and havent had a problem since. Might be worth while checking exspecialy if youve had to force the lock.
Hth.

Do I just ask for a lock rebuild kit or are the specific part numbers I need to order?

Lock rebuild kit for E30 should be enough for most stealers.

What you get is a bag of bits to enable you to build up a replacement lock assembly for your driver/passenger door(bear in mind that these kits are specific to driver or passenger side)the instruction sheet is,unsuprisingly, written in German...I suggest that you dismantle your existing lock carefully so you have some idea of how to build up the new one.
Start by drifting out the roll pin at the inner end, then the thing comes apart with ease.Note that the 'fingers' that slide into the lock barrel have a number stamped into them, try to keep these in the correct order for your replacement lock, believe me,it saves hours of fiddling to get them in the correct order :o:
