The mod using one of DanThe's splined shafts and a couple of E34 UJ's is now pretty well documented, tried and tested with E30 and E46 racks. Just wondering if anyone has considered an E9x 3-Series steering linkage? There's one for sale on Ebay here:

Does anyone know off the top of their head if the UJ's fit the splined shafts from the E30 steering column and E46 rack? And if so, if the length of the column is right? If no-one knows anything about them, tempted to take a punt for a look-see just to answer the question.

yeah, however being steel for the center bit then the tube could be joined and welded in a manner that would allow you to hide the fact it had been shortened and welded.
if the splines are wrong the cups from the uj can actually be unstaked and the joints hybrid-ized provided you re stake them properly.

Haha I think I'm happy to agree with the MOT men with regards to welding in the steering linkage!
