I would like to remove the steering column on a 320i to get the carpet out without cutting it.....

Those silly anti-theft bolt type things on the upper mount, what is the easiest quickest way to get them out? You know the ones with no heads on them as such?

:)

TIA

EDIT: I did try and tap them round with a hammer and chisel as a "quick fix" the other night but my chisel is well rounded off and wouldn't have cut the shit off a dogs arse.
How do you pronounce 'either'? I say 'either', but some say 'either'. Either is correct.

I used a centre punch and hammer.

Going back, you can buy the special security bolts with the snap off head from your local stealer,or use ordinary M8 nuts and bolts, like what I did...

Thought it would be this tbh.

Yeah standard M8's FTW :)

Grind a slot into the head and use a screwdriver, 1mm disc needed.

This. Cordless Dremel FTW.

I presume you have the dash out as well? I removed mine from the shell in 5mins, no cutting or breaking anything required.

From a quick tutorial I did some time ago, might also be in the wiki?

[QUOTE=Jozi]This was very very easy and quick to do!

All you need is a 13mm socket, 13mm spanner and a hammer.

Start by undoing the two bolts in the firewall and also the one on the clamp which can be seen below:

Give it a few taps with a hammer and slide it up the column

Here you can see the shear bolt and the slot it is in

A few taps with the hammer and your left with this
