I recently moved from Vines BMW Gatwick to a well known dealer in London, Hexagon of Highgate.
In my third week now and i have noticed a very different stream of work or should i say type of car and customer coming through the door to where i have been.

Along with the usual rep mobile dross of 118d's 320d's etc there has been plenty of lumpy tackle like V8 fives, six's, X5's, M3's and the like even a LHD E31 Alpina B12 in Alpina blue!

There has also been an E30 in, in as many weeks i have been there including this,

Image

It's an '88 325i Manual cabrio in Alpine white with blue hood and leather with 107k on the clock with a solid rot free body but with a few minor cosmetic scabs and a few small dents so its no minter.

It was booked in to investigate a window problem and and running problem.

Every car that comes through the door has a vehicle health check which is a visual inspection of the car to notify the customer of any issues with the car and also to get some follow up work.

The total quote for work needed for this car including work for the issues the car was booked in for came to, wait for it..........

£7000!

This price was at the full labour rate and parts at full retail but they discounted it down to £5000 by giving 10% off the parts and the 6+ reduced labour rate.

And the customer is having the lot done! 8O  :D

Not tempted to sneak in and offer to do it all for £4k? :P

Must be a one-owner motor or something of sentimental value surely? Does that price include the cosmetic bits?

Most importantly, will you got to do the work or will it be passed to a junior chap due to it's age?

ALL preface Alpine White II cabs with blue leather and blue roof are worth saving !

Irrespective of the reasons why, she's decided to get it back to how it should be and 10/10 to her for not putting a £5k deposit down on a stop start 116d instead. In the congestion zone, it must be tempting.

It's a long running thing that was started years ago by Geoff Heyward, the BMWCC chairman at the Annual BMWCC show when he made a comment that E30 owners are penniless losers as a load of Zone scrap was let in the gates, 2006 iirc.

He had a point to a degree.

All the fun of a full resto without the bills :D

Go on then, what does it need, spill the beans!

I still reckon there must be some 'tale' behind it. Famous previous owner? Deluded current owner?

So how much of the cost is parts, and how much of it is paying you to rub your arse cheeks over every inch of the paintwork while wearing chamois lederhosen?

That's the Official BMW Approved method, isn't it?

That's probably cheaper than the 'issues' a dealer could find with most E30's to be fair. I very much doubt bodging it together is on the cards and proper work needs proper cash.

Fair play to her though :thumb:

Wow! The oldest thing we had in ours in the 2 years i have been there was a 525i e34. We get e36s, 46s,90s and so on. We get quite alot of m power stuff, at least 3 1Ms come to our dealer along with loads of M3s and a fair few new m5s now. Which btw i drove yesterday and oh my god! Is all im saying

I think the last time we saw an e30 was an m3 a few years back and then a few days before that apprently there was a 325i motorsport cab in white in too....
Im longing for the day an e30 comes in

Oh by the way, anyone on here in bedford rebuilding an e30 m3??? A bloke came in and ordered loads of parts and a few were back order and the delievery date wasn't suited to his need so he went away, researched, came nack and order different model parts that can be used in the E30. Apprently its under going a full complete resto. Everything new and he is only using bmw parts!!! Need this bloke on here with a build thread!!!

Munich legends labour rate is a lot less than ours and the 3 cabrios TG had were quoted 3 different prices due to their varying conditions.
