A lights on reminder is a very simple thing to make. Just two components in its simplest form, but on a BM should really be something a bit more sophisticated.
If any ones got a genuine BMW one, then either send it to smithy for analysis (i.e. cloning) or open it up and take some good photos of both sides of the PCB.
The OBC gong from an E34 5 series looks as if it will fit in place of an E30 one, and has a second input socket on it, which I think can be used for a lights warning. It's another of those things I intend to get around to checking out one day!

right im back
fook me it freezing out there
definately got one in my car and its coming from behind the clocks/under dash panel area!
No way am i pissing about finding it tonight but will try and hunt it down tomorow after work!
So i take it this is unusual then?
Did think it was quite cool when i got this one, because none of my other E30`s had it,i just assumed it was fitted as an option or to the higher models SE/Sport etc

The E34 gong does have two inputs. one is for the OBC and the other is for the seat belt (i think). The problem with that is, you can use it as one or the other if connected to the interior lights. because the GND (or negative) terminals are both connected together.
Lets see... what do you think was the first thing i did... Pull it to bits...
there are chips and allsorts inside it
so i aint copying that.

I used to have an aftermarket one years ago which I wired in. Made a bee like buzzing sound, but buzzed for as long as my interior light stayed on (I had an aftermarket delay too) It was funny how the buzz died as the lights faded out.
Seeing as the delay on the E30 only works with the driver's door and has it's own connector to the pin switch I don't suppose this will happen if a buzzer is connected to the other connector.
But we don't all want 'flop around inside the dash' buzzers, we all want nice pluggy-in ones courtesy of Smithy Electronics. Please choose a nice upmarket buzz, too, we don't want any weedy Metro buzzers or council sirens!!
