Was driving down the road and the car cut. All signs were normal, i pulled over and tried to start the engine and about 10 minutes later it turned over and drove about 100 yards and cut out again filled the car with a jerry can with about 1/2 a tank worth of fuel but still won't turn over. Has anyone got any idea of where to start... checks that need to be made to determine the problem???

When it cuts out while driving, do you lose all power to the instruments too? The idea that it cuts out and won't crank afterwards suggests a dodgy wiring terminal, either at the alternator or battery.

We need to know what car you have to give a proper diagnosis, but in the meantime, have a look at this:

cheers mate, what happened was the coil had voltage then it disappeared -

just brought the car the guy had a sound system and disconnected the battery + , but didn't tighten it back up.

silly but it's resolved now thanks
