Hi Iam just wondering what other engines can be made to fit into the E30 and what non BMW motor they go for. I have a m52 to go in mine but I know of a mazda B13 (rotary rx7 turbo) at a good price. I know the purists will say stick with the m52 but its very tempting and looking at it not too hard to do.

Most things fit under the bonnet, it's the gearbox/bellhousing that appears to be the sticking point for the more radical conversions.
Not that I've done it myself....

the sr20det is a favourite, the saab 234r unit is also a fair engine to be installing, but has a few obsticles along the way

SR20DET hmmm? I always fancied a pulsar just because they are bit different , suppose the engine in a E30 would be perfect. Whats a LS1? Could the admins do a section in the engine conversions just for non BMW swaps? Nothing better than a nice bit of fabrication. :D

S2000 Power

I'm getting hard for one of these engine swaps. Bomb proof engines and good for 400 bhp with a blower.

To me one of the main reasons we have bm's is because the engines are mustard. Or is it that the cars that yank V8's are fitted to are sh!te? Same with the drab jap stuff. Bar the proper skylines

Pretty sure the 4G63 (Mitsubishi Evo motor) fits under there. Been thinkin' about doing that swap when I have an E30 and the cash to do it, just to be a little different, but it swallows up petrol like nothing. So I'm thinkin' M52 just to play it safe.

Just been wondering if you could use the e30 ix front shafts and hubs and make it 4wd? A sr20det with complete pulsar running gear would be quite good, just shame about the soft transfer boxes.
Going for the m52 I have now but will be watching what else people fit winkeye .
