this is gonna confuse alot of peps coz mine is an M3 E36 rack and i had the spacer made and pipes made and cut and shut the steering union to find that when i went to bolt it all up if i located the rack in the forward holes u dont need any thing modyifing that means DIRECT replacement if u use the forward mounting holes!

u have to run a standard M20 manifold with an E36 rack, 6 branches are a no no. Which car Ian?
As it would be tight on the H35 would be my guess!

Word of caution on using different hole etc.
Make sure you don't move the axis of the rack around too much (vertically or fore-aft) or you'll introduce undesirable bump steer into the sytem, which is generally not nice. But if its tested and works for you, then great.

Sorry to confuse the issue even more, but do the track rod ends have to be changed for the E36 ones ?
Also how many turns, lock to lock is the M3 rack
and how many for the next one down (Z3)?
There is NO nucleus.

if u look on the front cross member where the rack is bolted up u will c a hole in front of each bolt bout 1 1/2" (forward) front of car u will need to drill the holes slightly larger to accept the bolts but then u just bolt up and away u go and by the way the E36 tra rod ends also fit direct

That's not like any E36 rack I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). The Banjo union is in totally the wrong position. Are you sure it's an E36 rack ?
This is what most E36 racks look like.

Interesting.
Did you have to mess with the power steering pipes, or did they hook right up ?
How many turns lock to lock do you have ?
If it is indeed an E36 rack, then you may well have found the 'holy grail' of E30 racks

Oh God, that means prices of E36 M3 racks are now going to sky rocket, as if they were cheap in the first place

I'm still not sure it's an E36 rack. All E36's have the power steering pipe connections in a different place to the E30 rack.
All 6 cylinder E36 racks have 3.4 turns lock to lock except the original 3.0L M3 that had 3.2 turns. I've never seen an E36 rack with 3.5 turns.
Next time you are under the car, it would be good to see if there are any part numbers on it.
