Just thought I'd let you all know. I'm the lucky new owner of this turd. Big thanks to Steve for talking sense.

Massive respect to Mat. His work is second to none.

Whatch this space for some stroker action and powder coating wrongness

We're glad it went to a good home and to someone who appreciates a good sport !

Dec is still miserable that's it's gone but needs must and all that, he can still wash mine and stroke it from time to time to fill the void.

This car would never of sold on here anyway, too many penniless losers who think a 2k sport is a good one

I'm really happy it went to Scott, second best thing to me buying it back IMHO. I was racking my brains trying to think of a way of having it back but the new business is a major priority at the mo.

This car needs to stay in contact with the zone as its part of the history, for me at least.

I can proudly say I actually saw this car in the flesh on saturday whilst visiting e30topless in yorkshire.

Looked absolutely immaculate, pictures just dont do it justice.

Looked brand new, never have I seen a sport or any e30 look as clean.

And i met rav (blue convertable ) in person :D

I thought it was about time I pulled my finger out and got on with sorting the underside refurb of the sport.

I basically bought all new shocks, springs, bearings etc for my old rusty turd but when this turned up just couldn't carry on with my original black sport.

So the plan is to pull everything off the underside of the car and either to replace with new or refurbed parts much the same as diddler, simon13, topless to name a few.

I managed to remove all the rear subframe, fuel tank, brake lines etc over the past two days and started to remove the under-seal where it has disculered with rust. 8O

Its surprising what lurks benieth what looks like solid underseal.

This is the only disappointing part I found after a real good dig around. Everything else on the shell is rock solid and Mats work is really standing the test of time.

This is the section were the fuel tank filler pipe runs through the inner inner arch. It needs chopping out and doing properly as the metal has some tiny holes in it. Its the only metal work needed. The rest is all savable.

The plan is to treat the areas with fertan then zinc prime, paint and then re-underseal. I will then rebuild the arse end, do the same with the front before going to Mats for the metal work and some paint.

I'm going to need some advise on the best products to use for this job.

Some pics of the tank area.

Time to crack on as I want this done for the pod

No strip action for this M20 Dan! I might run it against the tug boat captain. :D

Dan have you any subframe void fillers left?

Theres nothing worse than pulling parts underneath with the anticipation of rust. Looks real good though mate. Are you going to powder coat everything?

Yup. I'm just waiting for the fuel tank to come back from the powder coaters.

I have just found a plating specialist who does the passivated coatings on nuts and bolts on the industrial estate in the town. Result!

I'm sorting the rust patch this weekend hopefully then it will all be painted and stone guarded body colour underside.

I'm going out with the TFR now. Lets get wet and dirty.

A quick update.

Well I got out the TFR and a selection of the wife's scrubbing brushes and set to cleaning all the grime off the underside.

I was using the TFR neat in some places and managed to burn my shoulder in the process but it was worth it to have a clear rear end :D

Some before and after shots

I then hit all the little areas of under seal that had swollen up with a wire brush. Rust treated the area's with Fertan and then zinc prime and re under seal.

Then out with the mig :D I couldn't leave this bit of rot in so I had to fill the hole in the tube using a little fillet piece and a brass bar to fill the hole. I then cut out the bad section and blasted in a new piece. I also climbed in the boot to weld the inside the inner as well just for good measure.

I then made a temporary booth under the rear arse end ready for some anti gravel/stone guard. Its really difficult to get a body colour match mixing paint and anti gravel together.

Image
Image
Image

I made the mistake of not wearing any mask whilst under the car :o: It really fooked me up. Went all dizzy and sick. I can strongly recommend leaving this to the professionals.

I'm not happy with the colour finish underneath. It looks almost like I have covered the car in primer although the texture is right the colour is not what I wanted so the plan is to flash over with some tins of silver.

I will get some more pics up when my headache and munches disappear.

Dez

I've been dreaming of the man action that's going to be going down at the pod.

I'm glad you all like my selection of blankets. The black one spent most of my teenage years glued to my bed. Lets just say "Only the corners needs starching". :D

As for rust. If I hadn't attacked the under-seal you would have never of noticed what was underneath. Its all good now though.

I had a bit of a day trip down to see Andy for a very good 325 fuel tank. 600 miles in one day.

I've started putting the brake lines back on and should be bolting the rear end back up over the next few weeks. Progress is too slow for my liking but work is mental at the minute. :?

Very Impressive stuff Scott!

Mine has a very long way to go to get anywhere near this kind of condition, and I have very little spare time or mechanical experience which meant I came close to selling up in Jan, decided to stick with it after reading through threads like this!

Will get those prices to ya in the morning.

Looking good Scotty me lad. Great to see the torch has been passed on to a man with the standards and talent jbu deserves. This was always intended as the next step but the S50 pull was too strong. Still the only car in my history that i have an attatchment too and im glad its in trusted hands, not to mention the fact its with a top geeza.

I still want him/her back.

Now then dude.

We will have to catch up soon.

Ultimately I think I will go down the S50 route but a lot needs to happen before that.

As for having her back. No Chance :D
