Can anyone help me?
My heater used to mainly work where as 1 & 2 setting would only work if I put it on setting 3 or 4 first and dropped down, then it was fine, sometimes it would take a tap on the switch to work. But now, if I do the same down to setting 2, it will work for a few seconds and then with a clonk (sounds like a switch being pressed) it stops working?
Is this likely to just be the switch?

Sounds like your heater fan motor is in serious need of lubrication.

Well the motor is out, wasnt too difficult, just a bit cold and dark to be working on the car.
Ive given it a good spray of WD40 and although it seems a little free-er it still doesnt seem too good, ive left it to soak in plenty of WD40 so hopefully its freed up a little.

Thanks to jonb (will sort payment when I get in) who is a top zoner! I had a heater motor arrive by special delivery this morning.
And travelling back to work lunchtime, I was stuck in traffic, so, as I was bored, I turned the heater switch setting on to number 4 and got a whir for a few seconds then a clonk and that was it. Then I turned it off again, turned it back on and after a bit of a whirring and clonking, it sounded like it finally freed and is now working on all 4 speeds (has never done that), but I will be keeping the other one as a spare, just incase it goes again.
