hi, im thinking of going to a few DWYB days in the summer. is it better to splash out and get a lsd or just drag the welder out.
love to hear peoples opinions, thanks.
Differential for drifting

I think that a welder may be a better option for drifting, compared to a 20 yr old e30 LSD.
Unless of course it's a rebuilt LSD with additional clutch packs and modified ramp angles
What engine do you have in your car?

Ideally you would want a medium case welder, but it might be difficult to find a medium case in a suitable ratio for the m40 to drift (ie. above 4).pipework wrote:its only a 1.8 m40 engine but im looking for something a bit more powerful soon. after looking into it a bit more im also thinking welder
I don't know what it's like to drift an m40 e30 with a low ratio, but i presume it would be easier with a higher ratio diff in.
Depends if you want 100% lock on the over run. I've never driven a welded diff, bit I imagine great fun, not without its pitfalls..
As for the LSD, you will want it freshened up & the ramp angles shallowed off. More expensive, but probably a much better tool
