I have a 316i Lux M40 1990, Biting point as recently been getting higher to the rest position and starting to feel spongy...
Replace Clutch Slave Cylinder and new fluid obviously and do the whole bleeding thing?
Any help much appreciated.

I would check the slave as a starter for ten, the seals can wear, they are not expensive and straight forward to replace.

Not necessary but it is normally reccommneded to change both slave and master cylinders as both can leak, and while you have it drained it is silly not to do so.
unless you know that one has been changed recently

Biting point getting higher is a sign of worn clutch plate.
If the slave or master are failing or there is air in the system the biting point will get lower.

Alright then, thats made things a lot clearer now, any recommended brands to use either from eurocarparts or GSF car parts?

If it were the slave cylinder that's causing the problem, you would be losing fluid.
If no fluid is being used, the problem is the master cylinder, but the cure is still the same - change both, with the most expensive alternative offered.

So if I change both slave and master cylinders would this bring the biting point back to normal then? As it is pretty high.Brianmoooore wrote:If it were the slave cylinder that's causing the problem, you would be losing fluid.

Much Appreciated.

What happens if you hold the clutch down in first gear with the engine running? Does it eventually start to creep?

No not really, basically:
1) Engine on, Clutch down
2) Select first gear and hand-break down
3) Slowly let go of clutch and biting point is really high, and slight jerking/juddering
Thing is i need to give it at least 2k rmp for it not to have the juddering affect happening.
This happens on and off, but recently it's getting more frequent.
Fluid level is fine if not perfect and pulls well in all gears through the rev range.
Cheers again Brian.
