Hey fellas,
The needles on my instrument cluster clocks do not move smoothly, they jerk and shudder about as they move.

Is this a symptom of a failing SI board battery?

Now that I think back, the service lights have never gone down since I got the car in January. Just answered my own question I think.... 8)

Some had AA (not AAA as above) type Ni-Cd batteries with solder tags, while later ones had a smaller Lithium battery - you'll need to remove the SI board to check.

Before I operate on my turd, can we verify that these are symptoms of low SI batteries?

Jerky, lazy gauge needles

Wandering fuel gauge, + - to an 8th of a tank.

Needles jump when I take the key out.

SI lights have never gone down, always full green.

Yes, these can be symptoms. However, also check the brass nut(s) on the back of the temperature gauge, as these often work loose and give an intermittent connection.
