When I fit the 325i with gearbox, I want to refresh the shifter and all its bushes. But fiddling around on RealOEM, I've got confused. In 09/1989, some of the parts changed; the Shifter, the Selector Rod and the T-piece all have different part numbers, and I'm unsure of what the changes are.
Are the parts interchangeable, or do all three parts need to be fitted as a unit? i.e can an early selector rod be used with a later T-piece, for example?

It's cleaning up the Wiki that got me looking into it. The parts list includes reconditioning parts that, on a post-1989 vehicle, wouldn't have been fitted anyway. Which is why I ask.

The selector rod joint (gearbox end), that contains the bush that is the chief culprit for sloppy linkage, was increased in width at some point, along with a corresponding longer bar on the selector rod to suit.
Wiki needs an update to state that the entire vibration damper can be removed and binned with no ill effects (only needed with early guibos, all of which will be long dead), then the selector rod will not need bending.

Thanks for clearing that up Brian; it is the selector rod and joint that were bothering me.
Does removing the vibration damper affect the overall length of the prop?
