I have acquired a cruise control unit, thanks to Ken, one of the guys from the E30 Zone who is based in the US.

The acquisition was fantastic. I paid him and he sent the package very quickly to me. The parcel was excellently packaged and everything was there in the box.

I would recommend buying anything from Ken if he sells anything else on here. I would give him a 5* rating. Excellent communications throughout.

Thanks Ken if you are reading this.

Now the question is - is it hard to fit and has anyone fitted one from here.

Cheers

I've fitted one and found it quite straight forward all except for fitting the main connector through the bulkhead which was more difficult than the rest of the job combined.

I need another guinea pig for taking some pictures for an article.

I'll put my car forward as a guinea pig. Where would the work need to be done? I've got both DV camera and a digital camera too, if you need help with photos or film.

I am also able to do this anytime.

:D

Would be good to get as many features as possible done. I'm also acquiring an aircon unit too in the next few months!

Also I have acquired the M3 trimming that goes around the bonnet - it is black rubber and should look good against my white bonnet! Just need to get some good weather to clean my car and then to put it on!

2005 is going to be a year for my car.

Have you got plenty of tools Lizzie because most of the dash needs to be taken apart, it's quite a long job. It's probably a better job for the good weather because the car needs to be open a lot which isn't very good if it's raining!!!

The M3 trim is available at any dealers and it's not too fiddly to put on, it definately gave my car a much cleaner look! :D

I've had the M3 trim in the back of my boot for quite a few months now. I just haven't got round to doing it and I also wanted the good weather to do it in, so that it would bond well. No point doing a job in haste and getting poor results.

Did you have to do any modding on the trim?

It's definately best to do it in warm weather, you need to leave the bonnet open for quite a while to allow it to bond properly. I had to trim some excess from the ends, I started at the windscreen and and worked down to the front of the car and used a sharp blade to slice the spare bit off.

I, or should I say my ol' papa has got plenty of tools to do work on and I've got a complete courtyard that's away from traffic to do the work on, which is great and also close to my flat, so that is even handier, cos' it's not far to go for drinks and the human break or too!

That would be excellent if you could use Lizzie's convertible as a 'tech write up' ginuea pig. I would be VERY interested in this, as it's my next mod after I install the OBC I have.

P.S. Lizzie, where's your sig pic...? :x

This really is a plug and play install. The only thing you need to worry about is that you have a LHD cruise loom. There are about 5-6 wires that need to be extended about 20-30cm.

Also, there is only 1 bolt holding the stalk to the steering column and it also goes through the window wiper one as well. You need a longer bolt than stock and its a BMW part. You might already have it fitted ,i had to buy it. Cheap though.

If your car is manual you also need to hook up the clutch switch. Contrary to what a few other ppl have experienced, I actually was able to fit it using the LHD switch bracket - pretty easy.

So it's not just me that couldn't get it fitted then!!

Micheal, I remember mentioning on here that I couldn't fit the switch because there was a spring in the way, the spring keeps the clutch pedal taught, but nobody had seen this spring when fitting theirs? I couldnt even fit the correct RHD drive switch without moving this spring, si I had to remove it, it went together fine then.

Awesome! I'm glad you're happy with it. I actually just logged on and was going to ask you if you'd installed it yet and/or how the process was going. If there is anymore interest in cruise control kits, I can try to acquire some here as they came standard on almost all e30s. Shoot me a PM or email if you're interested.
Thanks,
Ken

Ken...

I will be interested in a set-up, but not for a while yet. Spent too much on the old girl just recently, will probably be towards the summer time if that's okay...

simon, how far did you get with the cruise control on the sport. is it only the stork left that is needed to be done, or do the switches on the pedals need doing as well. 8)

Simon, the two I've sold thus far were for $160 USD including postage. Turns out to be a great deal for you guys due to our damn dollar being so weak.
What's the difference in the 88+ kits?

I hope you can understand this pic. My digicam is only 2.0 MP and doesnt like close ups in confined spaces.

Basically, the clutch switch is always pressed and when you tap the clutch, the pedal moves down and the red part of the switch comes out of the white housing, triggering the Cruise to disengage. You only 'just' have to touch the clutch and thats enough for it to disengage.

From memory, I actually reversed the way the switch sits in the bracket compared to the way it was in the LHD car, I think the switch used to be on the opposite side of it. Anyway, if you had the unit infront of you and if you looked at this pic you could work out what i've done

Ken, the 88+ kits have the decelerate function where as the early ones don't.

Ken I have sent you a PM. I would like a post 88 kit (ie with decelerate mode) for my motor. Its a 1989 as per signature - LHD so fitting should be even easier.

Kelson, I sent you an email about it.

For the rest, email is really the best way to get ahold of me as I only check this forum every couple of days.
