M50 bogging down on hard cornering / sideways roundabout!!

My E30 build is now MOT'd and on the road.

And driving it around has been fun, but decided to give it some stick on a rural roundabout and went a little sideways for a bit and then the car bogged down / limited power...... So repeated it and the same thing happened.

There isn't much fuel in the car maybe 1/8 tank but this should really make a differene shoud it?

All the ABS plugs have been cut on the on the hubs and further up. So was thinking that one might be shorting out and causing it to cut power? But surely this would not be the case?

So confused?


Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

if there is not a lot of fuel in the tank it could do that mate! what fuel is there will naturaly go the the left side of the tank (away from the pump) and cause the pump to suck on bugger all lol
ive had this but my fuel light was on so........

try stickin like 20 quid in the bitch and try again. if it still does it get back to us is my advise

If the car started life as an M10 carb engine it may not have a swirl pot fitted in the tank, making this situation more likely, I have this and just don't let it run too low

Is the pump standard Mark?

A friends M20 track car did this, the car was converted from an M10. An uprated pump didn't work so we tried an external swirl pot and it's been fine since including three trips to the 'ring.

So what do I need to do then?

Or could it be that I put the fuel lines the wrong way round???? Then I replaced the lines and took the petrol tank off?....???

Put 30 quid worth of fuel in it and seel if the problem goes away. Was it a M10 car before the swap?

The car is a 318 is. 1990

So that is the M10?

But it's got all the 325 running gear ;)

Will take it for a spin tomorrow as the weather is crap at the mo'

My one does this to, I'm fairly sure my issus is with the pipe that bridges the left and right side of the fuel tank. It's under the car in the centre underside of the tank. When I corner hard on low ish fuel it gets starved and looses power for a moment then it come straight back in once I'm level again.

I will ensure I run over 1/4 of a tank then.... or get another fuel tank...

Change to the more sophisticated 62 litre tank. The pipe is eliminated in this design to cure this problem.

There was one corner on Nurburg GP that I got this on, slight downhill into never ending right hander, dunlop curve I think it was called. This was with about 1/2 a tank. Whole rest of circuit fine, north loop fine too. Never once had it on the road either and did about 55K in that car!

If I restrict the flow through the pipe would that help??

As it would prevent the fuel from pushing to the left hand side??
